We are seeking an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer or Assistant Engineering Geologist to join our growing geotechnical team in the Northwest.
The Arcadis Geotechnical team are involved in some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating projects. Our wide-ranging portfolio includes schemes with Highways England, the Environment Agency, Canal & Rivers Trust and Network Rail.
Key Responsibilities/ Duties:As a developing assistant engineer or engineering geologist, you will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of projects for multiple clients. The successful candidate will have to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop geotechnical deliverables. This will present an opportunity to develop to become a well-rounded geotechnical professional.
Reporting to the team leader, the role is likely to involve:• Preparing geotechnical calculations, specifications (e.g. GI, Mining etc.), reports (e.g. Desk Studies, GIR, GDR etc.) and drawings in line with project and legislation requirements.• Managing selected small projects or components of projects, taking responsibility and resource allocation for own area and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications.• Leading their own technical and professional development, supported by the team’s more experienced members.
• Msc / MEng Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical bias.• Progressing towards becoming a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Geologist.• Full UK driving License.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:• Enthusiastic and supportive team member.• Led the development of technical submissions including geotechnical desk studies, ground investigation and earthworks specifications, preferably with site investigation experience.• Experience of developing ground models and assessing existing risks and solutions related to ground activities. Experience of mining risk assessments would beneficial. • Understanding of geotechnical design including foundations (shallow and piled), retaining walls and slope stability. Preferably experienced with geotechnical software.• Capable of efficiently undertaking geotechnical tasks, managing their own delivery with minor supervision. • Awareness of health and safety (CDM 2015), commercial and contractual risks.• Growing experience of leading project delivery, including planning, supervising and designing elements of a project, together with examples of applying standards and technical knowledge in projects.• Strong technical report writing with clear verbal communication skills. Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within the team and with multi-disciplinary clients.• Proficient user of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
